teaching of Jodo Shinshu.

Rennyo (1415-1499) was a descendant of
Shinran and the eighth chief abbot (monshu) of
the Jodo Shinshu school of Buddhism. While
Shinran Shonin is the "Founder", Rennyo
Shonin is called "the Restorer" , because of his
great contribution in explaining the essentials of
the teaching of Shinran and his missionary
spirit, who made from Jodo Shinshu, one of the
most important traditions in Japan.
This book contains oral teachings from Master
Rennyo, given on various occasions to people
of different personalities and origins.
It is a lively book, where Master Rennyo
speaks directly to his audience, people like you
and me, and everything he says is as useful
today as it was in his times.
TRANSLATOR   Zuio Hisao Inagaki Sensei was born in Kobe, Nov. 1929. Graduated from Kobe City University of Foreign Languages (B.A.),
Ryukoku University (M.A.) and School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (Ph.D., 1968). Lecturer in Buddhism at the School of
Oriental and African Studies, 1969-81; professor at Ryukoku University, 1982-98. After his retirement in 1998, a professor emeritus at Ryukoku
University. Appointed to Numata professorship at the University of California, Berkeley (1985), the University of Hawaii at Manoa (1989), and Leiden
University, The Netherlands (1992). President of the International Association of Shin Buddhist Studies from 1993 to 2005; Honoary President of the
same since 2005;  representative of the Pure Land Mandala Study Group since 1995.
